Reed Berrett Fanning, 73, passed away January 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. Reed was born in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1967. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Central British Mission from 1968 to 1970.
He graduated from Weber State College with a Major in History and a Minor in French and Military Science. He completed the ROTC program at Weber State and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army in May of 1973.
He married Vicki Lynn Reeves in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on February 25, 1972. Reed and Vicki just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have three children, Reed Berrett Fanning (Melissa), William John Fanning (Heidi), and April Faye Domingo (Tony).
He spent 11 years on active duty and was stationed in Georgia, Texas, Germany, Missouri, Korea, and Idaho. He joined the Army Reserves in 1983 and served an additional 15 years, retiring after 26 years total.
He worked for Idaho State Disaster Services for 5 years. He retired from the Idaho National Laboratory in 2011 after working for 20 years.
He served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a nursery leader, gospel doctrine teacher, Sunday School teacher, Ward and Stake executive secretary, High Councilor, Elders quorum president, Ward clerk, and Bishop. He served three full-time missions with his wife in the England Birmingham Mission, the California Fresno Mission, and the California San Diego Mission.
He leaves behind his wife, Vicki, three children (Reed, William and April), six grandchildren (Hannah, Marissa, Bridget, Quinn, Liam, and Reed Berret), one sister, Ellen Katherine McDougal (Robert), and two brothers William John Fanning (Elaine), Paul Morgan Fanning (Becky).
He was preceded in death by his parents, William John and Faye Berrett Fanning, and one brother, David James Fanning (Catalina).
Graveside services with military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on January 9, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Humanitarian Fund.
