Rebecca Lynn Hartsfield was called home to be with the Lord on August 22nd, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in San Antonio, TX on March 2nd, 1968, to James and Patricia (deceased) Butts, she resided in San Antonio most of her life, with only a brief stint in Nashville, TN.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years Keith Hartsfield, her daughter Emerson Lynn, twin sons Christopher Jackson and Aaron James, father James Butts, sister Deborah Immordino (Sabatino), aunt Joan Woods, and a multitude of cousins.
Rebecca was a student at St. Thomas More Catholic School before attending Roosevelt High School. Always wanting to help others, she decided to pursue a career in education. She attended St. Mary’s University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997. Rebecca moved to Nashville, TN shortly thereafter to accept a position at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital as a hospital teacher. To further her education, she attended night classes at Tennessee State University where she obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education in 2000. In 2003, she returned home to San Antonio to be closer to her family. She continued with graduate school, returning to St. Mary’s University, where she was a Distinguished Graduate and on the Dean’s Honor list. She received her 2nd Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2005. Rebecca worked for the San Antonio Independent School District as a teacher, and in administration, for almost 20 years. Her last position was at Jefferson High School, where she worked as a Disability Coordinator/ARD Manager.
Rebecca was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter and friend to so many. She left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. An avid baker, she loved to make all types of sweets for her family, friends, coworkers, and special events. She loved hanging out with family, especially her cousins. She loved her “Sisterhood” of friends from St. Thomas More. She loved her Jefferson High School family. She loved her Shih Tzu babies. She also cherished the gambling trips with her Dad. But most of all, she adored her children as she guided them into their teenage years. She was a devout Catholic with unwavering faith. This faith guided her as she battled cancer. She dealt with it on her terms, never missing work or family events. Rebecca’s strong will, perseverance, and fighting spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
Services begin on Monday, September 2nd with visitation at 5pm and a Rosary at 6pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in San Antonio. Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10am, followed by a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery, where Rebecca will be laid to rest.
A special “Thank You” to the nursing staff at Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center for their kindness and compassion.
