Rebecca Lynn Calcote

October 14, 1970 — March 1, 2025

Cibolo

Rebecca Lynn Calcote, age 54, of Cibolo, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2025, at 5:24 PM, after a courageous and hard-fought 13-year battle with cancer. Diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2012, Rebecca faced her diagnosis with remarkable strength and warrior-like ferocity. Though the cancer returned as Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2022, she fought relentlessly for herself, her family, and her friends. Her battle was long, but her resolve was unyielding. Ultimately, she was ready to rest and shed her earthly body for a pain-free heavenly body. It brings us great happiness to know that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior.

Born Rebecca Lynn Phelps (Becky or Becca) on October 14, 1970, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Leslie and Helen Phelps, she met the love of her life, Kevin Calcote, in June of 1995, and they were married on March 31, 1996. Together, they had two beautiful and exceptional children: Conner Joseph Calcote (born June 22, 1997) and Camryn Elizabeth Calcote (born October 25, 1999), who were the center of Rebecca’s world. This Mamma Bear would do anything for them, and her love for her children was limitless.

Rebecca’s life was one of love, dedication, and service. She graduated from Seguin High School in 1988 and went on to pursue her career in nursing. She earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) degree in 1991 from Victoria College. She started her career as an oncology nurse and then worked as a home health nurse for over 18 years. After her diagnosis, she continued to serve others as a Utilization Management Nurse for insurance companies. Not one to stop growing, she pursued higher education, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing in March 2020 from Galen College of Nursing, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in February 2022 from Western Governors University. We were all proud of her educational accomplishments.

Rebecca’s faith was unshakable, and as she faced her illness, she made a list of goals she wanted to accomplish. She asked God to let her see her children both graduate high school (check), then both graduate for Texas A&M University (check), and witness their many other milestones in their lives (check). She got to do it all. When her diagnosis progressed, she shifted her focus to making precious memories with her family and friends. Rebecca loved to fill her life with joy by traveling, attending concerts, taking cruises, enjoying family dinners, and simply embracing the moment with those she loved.

Her final three requests to God were to have one more Christmas with her family, visit the Dr. Pepper Museum with the family so she could place her brick (she loved DP so much, I believe we should have owned stock), and finally see an Elvis impersonator concert with Kevin and Camryn. By God’s grace, she was able to fulfill these wishes, attending the Elvis concert on February 22, 2025, just one week before her passing.

Rebecca leaves behind her beloved husband, Kevin Calcote; her son, Conner Calcote, and his wife, Brittney; her daughter, Camryn Calcote; and her cherished fur babies, Skittles, Chloe, Maggie, and Dixie, along with her two grand puppies, JJ and Lacie Ann. She is also survived by her father, Leslie Bruce Phelps, and her brother, Kelly Phelps. She is also survived by her in-laws, Rocky and Mary Calcote, and their sons, Chris Calcote and Joshua Calcote. Additionally, Rebecca is survived by many cherished friends who each had a special place in her heart.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Phelps, and her grandparents, Robert and Betty Martin (mom’s side), and Leslie Denton Phelps and Margaret Phelps (dad’s side).

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Rebecca’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, Texas 78154. A viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, with the service starting at 12:00 PM. After the service, family and friends are invited to the Calcote home at 264 Brush Trail Bend, Cibolo, Texas 78108, to share memories and reflect on the joy Rebecca brought into their lives. Food and refreshments will be provided.
