Philip Abell

May 2, 1947 — July 25, 2021

Philip Abell was a native Buckeye, born in Dayton, OH on May 2, 1947 he passed peacefully on the Morning of July 25, 2021.  He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Janet Abell of 51 years and their three sons.  Family includes Casey & wife Staci from Katy; Trevor & wife Lauri Ann from Belton; Drew & wife Marianne currently in the US Army stationed in Germany.  He was extremely proud of their six grandchildren: Lucas, Evan, Amelia, Wesley, Juliette, and Everett.  Phil is also survived by his sister, Sandy Dahm and members of her family including 2 nephews and 1 niece; 3 great nieces, 2 great nephews; great-great niece and nephew of Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Alberta Abell of Dayton, Ohio.  Phil entered the Air Force in his hometown of Dayton, OH, and proudly served 4 years.  He was stationed at Kelly AFB and Lackland AFB where he met his wife, Janet native Texan and married in 1970.

The couple made their home at first in Centerville & Kettering, OH, where he worked with the family business building homes, also working in real estate and mortgage, but eventually Phil moved his family to San Antonio, where he spent many years  working in the mortgage industry, and finally in transportation logistics.

Phil and Janet were active in Square Dancing and held many elected positions in the Alamo Area Square & Round Dance Association, and in the Texas State Federation Square and Round Dance and their local club, Grand Squares Square Dance Club.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 5, 2021, from 5pm to 9pm at Schertz Funeral Home.  Phil will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on August 11, 2021, at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Phil's memory to the Cancer Research Institute or a charity of your choice
