Pedro Herrera

June 29, 1926 — October 17, 2017

Pedro M. "El Negro" Herrera was born June 29, 1926 in Shafter, TX. He passed away peacefully and

surrounded by loved ones on October, 17, 2017 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 91. Mr. Herrera was the

proud co-owner of MB's Supermarket in Presidio, Texas, spending more than 60 years in the business.

Alongside his father and brother, they became icons to their customers. He was blessed with many

accomplishments that came without a college degree. It was with pure brains, guts, determination, and

great instincts that he accomplished so much. Mr. Herrera also served on the Presidio ISD school board

and was generous to the Presidio community. He was born with the gift of intelligence and a generous

heart. As a big Dallas Cowboy fan, he loved watching football on Sunday afternoons and also enjoyed

watching the San Antonio Spurs with his family. He also enjoyed family gatherings at the creek in

Shafter, TX. In his retired years, Mr. Herrera enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His

grandchildren recall the many times he would open his store after hours and tell them "run in there and

get some ice cream or whatever you would like, it's on me". He always created great memories and

cracked jokes making his family and others laugh. He kept those around him on edge with his humor and

as the years went on he never forgot the city of Presidio or his loved ones who passed before him. He will be greatly missed by friends, family, and the numerous people he met through the years. Pedro is

preceded in death by his parents Manuel Baeza and Maria Marta Montez Herrera; step-mother, Enedina

Herrera; brothers, Manuel M. Herrera and Jesus M. Herrera; sisters, Socorro M. Nieto, Maria Marta

Herrera, and half-sister Carmen Herrera. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nelda Navarette Herrera; daughters, Nelda Denise H. Lujan (Enrique) and Elsa Denette H. Guzman (Carlos); sister Nellie Flores, and grandchildren Danielle Marie Guzman, Pedro Enrique Lujan, and Jorge Jesus Lujan along with numerous nieces and nephews.
