Paul Richard Hunter II was called home by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 16, 2018, after a long battle with Huntington's disease at the age of 47. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Amalia (Valdes) Hunter; parent's, Paul R. and Susan C. (Evenson) Hunter; mother-in-law, Amalia (Garza) Torres and Godson and nephew, Logan Ruiz. Paul Richard Hunter II was born at Vandenberg AFB, California on September 21, 1970 to Paul R. Hunter and Susan C. (Evenson) Hunter. In his youth, Paul, as a military child, lived and went to school in a number of states to include, California, Ohio, Nebraska.
Paul was active in scouting, football, and soccer during his school years. At the age of 13 years and 7 months he attained the Boys Scouts highest award, that of Eagle Scout.
Paul served in the United States Army from February 18, 1992 until September 28, 1997. Paul completed the Medical Specialist course in 1992 and Physical Therapy Specialist course in 1996. He earned the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter Marksmanship qualification Badge with Rifle Bar and Marksman Marksmanship qualification Badge with Grenade Bar. Paul served in Germany, Hawaii, and Florida. Paul participated in Operation Uphold Democracy.
Paul's desire to help others lead him to pursue both a bachelor and master's degree in Social Work from the Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX . It was there that Paul met his future wife, Amalia.
Paul worked as Licensed Master Social Worker until Huntington's disease robbed him of that ability.
Paul loved sports. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Alabama Crimson Tide and San Antonio Spurs and didn't miss an opportunity to watch each and every televised game.
He enjoyed experiencing different cuisines and traveling. His favorite meal was his mother's fried chicken and the most exotic place he visited was the Turks and Caicos Islands.
His greatest joy, however, was advocating for the underprivileged and being surrounded by family and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Rosa (Fleissner) Hunter, Lawrence and Leah (Williams) Evenson. Paul is survived by his wife, Amalia M. (Valdes) Hunter; parents, Paul and Susan (Evenson) Hunter; brother, Scott and wife, Priscilla (Burgos) Hunter of Victoria, TX; 4 nephews, Derek and Sebastian Hunter, Logan Ruiz, Andres Santos; 3 nieces, Amariah and Carlee Hunter, Ariana Santos.
A visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 9:00 A.M - 10:00 A.M and Service at 10:00 A.M. at Schertz Funeral Home, interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
