Services for Senior Master Sergeant Paul Harvey Davis, United States Air Force (Retired), will be held on March 14, 2025, at noon at Schertz Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Paul was born in Ward, Arkansas, to Robert Henry Davis and Dorthea Pruitt Davis. He passed away on January 25, 2025, in Cleveland, Texas.
Paul is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Louise Foster Davis; his parents, Robert Henry Davis and Dorthea Pruitt Davis; his daughter Kathleen and son Daniel; his brothers Robert L. Davis, William Charles Davis, and Thomas Edward Davis; and his cherished sister Patsy Davis Wellinger.
He is survived by four of his six children: son Alexander (Janice), daughters Leleo (Wally), Patricia, and Maureen (Roy Lee). Paul was a proud grandfather to Jessica (Ronnie), Luika (Brandon), John Daniel (JD), Callie (Josh), Ashley (Barron), Noa, Lanea (Julia), Joshua (Nicole), Caitlin (Jeffrey), Patrick, Caz, Jerrami (Chana), and his treasured Sandra K. Davis. He was also blessed with 19 dearly loved great-grandchildren and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Paul served his country with honor, beginning in the Colorado National Guard before transitioning to active duty in the United States Air Force on July 27, 1954. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, retiring after 22½ years of service on July 27, 1976.
After retiring from the military, Paul built a successful second career in the newspaper industry, working for 35 years before retiring as Publisher of the Southside Reporter, a Hearst Media publication, in December 2011. He began his newspaper journey at the Weekly Herald of Universal City on August 3, 1976, and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming General Manager in 1982 and Publisher in 1984. Paul joined the San Antonio Light sales team in 1989, where he served as a sales manager and later led the successful total market distribution program Publisher’s Express He later moved to the Herald-Zeitung in New Braunfels in 1995 before returning to Hearst Media at the San Antonio Express-News in 1996, ultimately leading the Southside Reporter until his retirement.
Paul was deeply involved in his community. He served as President of the Randolph Metrocom Chamber of Commerce (1985-1986) and was active in the Rotary Clubs of New Braunfels and San Antonio Highlands. He also held various positions on the Universal City Council, including serving on the Library Committee, Board of Adjustments, and the Planning and Zoning Committee. Additionally, he was involved with the Port of San Antonio.
One of Paul's most cherished honors was being appointed "Hidalgo de San Antonio de Béjar" on December 20, 2011.
Paul and Elizabeth shared a love of travel, exploring new restaurants, and, most of all, spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his warm personality, Paul never met a stranger. He loved sharing stories, connecting with people, and bringing joy to everyone around him.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
As Paul often said: "If I don’t see you before Easter, hide the eggs!"
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
