Patricia graduated from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974. From then on, she spent 40 years of nursing in pediatrics, med-surg, telemetry, CCU, ICU Hospice, Home Health, orthopedics, out-patient surgery and internal medicine. She felt blessed to have chosen (or to have been chosen) to be a nurse. She overcame her fears and proved her Irish Grandfather, Pa Hogan, wrong; she was not timid and proved that over and over again with her courageous career as a nurse. Trish carried with her a mosaic of events and experiences that gave her much strength and peace - each a window through which she witnessed bravery, compassion and simple human kindness. She was full of empathy and in turn affected so many.
Patricia will be missed beyond measure, but her life will continue to be celebrated by those she knew dearly, and even those she met briefly. She never met a stranger, and her warm smile, bright eyes, and contagious laugh were legendary.
In her memory, she would love you to smile and befriend someone new, plant a perennial or spend time in a garden-- her favorites were antique roses and herbs. Go outside, run like the wind (or just around the block will do); climb a tree and spoil a dog or two. Encourage a friend, write a thank you card (even for a thank you card), text a funny Bitmoji anytime of day, enjoy an impromptu dance party, drink coffee and milkshakes with abandon and treasure a good simple margarita or a nice glass of wine. Travel, read more and laugh often.
Patricia was a constant learner and explorer. A ‘wind-swept' beauty, she cherished her time outdoors in her garden, enjoyed water and being a part of nature. She fiercely protected those she loved and cherished them. Many describe her as irrevocably kind, giving and humble, with an ever-present feistiness and humor that entertained her confidants. For many, she was considered "the best of all of us". She loved music, with her tiny shoulders and all.
There will be a Memorial Service/Celebration of Life at OLPH in Selma, Texas on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens in Patricia's honor.
Trisha asks just one last thing from you, as sung by Warren Zevon, " Maybe you'll think of me and smile... Keep me in your heart for a while."
