Oscar Salinas Martinez, born on February 21, 1936, in Eagle Pass, Texas, passed away on February 7, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 79.

He was the beloved son of Pedro Martinez and Alicia Salinas; and was the eldest of seven siblings. Prior to his service in the U.S. Navy, Oscar started his career in produce during his teenage years and continued with it until his retirement. He was a loving father and husband who took great joy in his family. He took great pleasure in making holidays very special for his daughters and took joy in working to transform his pristine yard and landscapes into award winning presentations. He loved his home. He also had a love for fishing, hunting, bowling, and golf. He and his wife gave back to the community in many ways, most notably with his key roles for the San Antonio Conservation Society during NIOSA, participating in many Stock Show and Rodeo events, such as Go Western Gala, and using his passion for golf by participating in many golf tournament fundraising teams. Over the years, he gave both his time and love to these events.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Martinez; parents, Pedro Martinez and Alicia Salinas; brother, Arturo Martinez; sisters, Elvira Felan and Armendina Pesina. Oscar is survived by his children, Diana Hartman with husband Dennis, Denise Hosek with husband Richard, and Drucilla Owenby with husband Bryan; brothers, Pete and Trinidad Martinez; sister, Lupe Rodriguez; grandchildren, Courtney Johnson with husband George, Baylee Hosek, Brayden Hosek, Stormy Owenby, Sara Owenby, Ashley Owenby; great grandchild, Alexa Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Schertz Funeral Home, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016, at Schertz Funeral Home, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
