Opal Harris

November 12, 1931 — April 21, 2018

Opal Patsy Harris was born to Henry Harold and Bessie Jane Bynum Dobbs in McKey, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma on November 12th, 1931. She was the sixth of eleven children, all who had unique names beginning with the letter O! Of her siblings, Patsy is survived by her closest sister, Ora Lee Kirk.

Patsy graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1949 and attended Conner College. After college, she joined the accounting department at Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph in Denver, Colorado. It was here where she met her future husband, Aaron (Ronnie) Harris, a career Military NCO on Recruiting Duty in Denver. Patsy married Ronnie on May 31st, 1957 in Ringgold, Georgia before embarking on a 60-year worldwide adventure of travel and exploration. Patsy and Aaron's adventures in the military took them all around the world. From Denver to Knoxville, from West Germany to Paris, from Spain to Texas, there was never a dull moment. Patsy's two loving children, Devlin and Vicki Harris, were born during this journey in Biloxi, Mississippi and Alicante, Spain. The Harris family's final stop was in San Antonio, Texas.

Upon arriving in San Antonio, Patsy pursued a passionate career working for the Universal City Utility Department where she retired after 26 years of service. Even when duty called and Ronnie was sent to serve our country overseas, Patsy was able to masterfully balance her role as a strong and caring mother while maintaining a successful career.

In addition to her two children, Patsy is also survived by three grandchildren Lee Harris, Marissa Harris, and Miranda Harris. She played a huge role in their upbringing and "Nana and Grandpa's House" quickly became the central base for the Harris family. Her love, guidance, and support was the foundation for two generations of Harris children to achieve success and make Patsy proud. In addition to her immediate family, Patsy is survived by two step children, Michael Vernon and Patricia Ann Harris; five step grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren, and even one step great-great-grandson!

Patsy was an accomplished pianist who loved both playing and listening to the "Old Time Gospel" songs. She especially enjoyed listening to the beautiful music and sermons of Jimmy Swaggart. Her services included one of her all-time favorite songs sung and played by Jimmy, "Come Home It's Supper Time," as the Harris family celebrated her life with a loving farewell. She was preceded in death by her Parents and nine of eleven brothers and sisters.

Patsy's presence as a strong mother will never be forgotten and her love and support will be felt for generations in the Harris family and local community.
