ONUFRY A. CIELENCKI, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas on July 24, 2018 at the age of 87. Born June 11, 1931 in St. Hedwig, Texas to Stanley and Otilia Cielencki who preceded him in death. Onufy's life was devoted to his family. He shared the joy of hunting and fishing with his children. Onufry had a kinship with agriculture, instilling the love of farming and raising cattle with his four children. Spare time meant family time to Onufry. He shared his life and these passions with his wife, Wilma, of 62 years, of whom survives him in death. Also survived by his daughter, Lisa Cielencki (Elwood); his sons, Douglas Cielencki (Diann), Scott Cielencki (Sallye), and Charles Cielencki (Cayla) as well as his brother, Justin Cielencki, the last surviving sibling of 11 children. Onufry was a very active Grandpa to his seven grandchildren, Zachary, Josh, Brittany, Kyle, Shelby, Cordell and Clair, and 2 great grandchildren, McKenzie and Kaitlyn. Onufry also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, brother & sister in-laws and many lifelong friends. He served in the US Army in the Signal Corp in Korea during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent within one year of enlisting. He was proud of being a Veteran. Following the war, Onufry pursued a career which spanned over 40 years. A hard worker and loyal employee, he worked for Sunbeam Bread for over 15 years, followed by Eurpac for 28 years until he retired. Onufry was a Member of the Knight of Columbus and the American Legion. He will be remembered for his entertaining stories. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, July 28, 2018, 10:00am, at the Annunciation of Our Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, TX, with the interment to follow at the church cemetery.
