Ollie Burkett, Jr
October 9, 1957 — October 30, 2015
Ollie Gene Burkett Jr., the eldest of five children, was born on October 9, 1957 in Waco Texas to Ollie and Dereda Burkett. Gene has 5 children, Kristin, Michelle (husband Jarrett), Trey, Travis (girlfriend Mercedes)and Danielle (boyfriend Michael). He was married to Lora Schroeder West and later to Lisa Holt. Gene was a lover of life and lived it to the extreme with a passion for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson's. He was dedicated to the care of his parents, children, siblings and friends- Gene laid down his life for those he loved. If you needed Gene, all you had to do was ask and he was there, ready to do whatever it took to get the job done. Gene was a veteran, had a fruitful career with Lubys and worked for various companies in senior management throughout his life. He was a carpenter, mechanic, artist, coach, chef, organizer of people and projects, soldier and friend-he was blessed with many talents and gifts but none any greater than his ability to serve others selflessly. His laugh was contagious, his voice was distinct and he could energize a room with his presence. He loved his country and he loved the Dallas Cowboys. During football games, Gene would scream at the TV when the Cowboys didn't do their best. He was always loyal and in the end, win or lose, they were his team. Gene gave the impression of that of a tough guy, but he was a sensitive loving person who would give you the shirt off of his back. We thank God for the time we were able to spend with Gene - he will be missed greatly. Gene leaves behind a granddaughter, Gracie; two sisters, Deborah Armstrong (husband Mike) and Patricia Wilson (husband David); two brothers, Marvin (wife Abby) and Curtis Burkett; nephews and nieces: Matthew, James, Ryan Burkett, Bryce Armstrong, Drexel and Scout Wilson and several aunts, uncles, cousins. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, November 5, 2015, 10:00am, at First Baptist Church of Schertz, with the interment to follow after.
