It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our hero, Lonnie Wolfe. Lonnie passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, March 2, 2024, due to complications of heart failure.
Lonnie was born in Audubon, New Jersey on October 28, 1957, to Oddis Lovone Wolfe, Sr., and Evelyn Mae Stephens. Along with his best friend for life, sister, Patti (Wolfe) Patterson, they traveled the world together while their dad served honorably in the United States Air Force (USAF), eventually settling in San Angelo, TX.
Lonnie was a 1975 graduate of San Angelo’s Central High School. After high school, he joined the Air Force on July 28, 1976. While in service Lonnie worked in the Bioenvironmental Engineering career field and later was a Technical Instructor teaching Bioenvironmental Engineering at Brooks AFB School of Aerospace Medicine. In 1980, while stationed at Kunsan AB ROK, he met a young airman, Wendie La Vere. The two were married on March 9, 1982, and celebrated nearly 42 years together. Lonnie retired honorably from the Air Force on July 31, 1996.
On December 8, 1998, Lonnie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environment Science from the University of Berkley. He entered the Civil Service for the USAF on October 16, 2000, and traveled the world as a Program Manager, supporting the Department of Defense fuel programs. Lonnie loved his family, friends, country, a good cigar, and a vivacious red blend.
Lonnie is survived by his wife Wendie La Vere Wolfe of Marion, son Samuel Wolfe of Cibolo, daughter Claire Wolfe and husband Sheldon Rodriguez of San Antonio, sister Patti Wolfe Patterson and husband Charlie Patterson of San Angelo, mother-in-law Karen Nagy La Vere of Marion, nephew Mathew Tolbert and wife Ashley Panzica Tolbert of Columbia, MD.
