Norman Mcbride

Norman E. McBride, age 79, entered into rest Sunday, January 20, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born February 8, 1933 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Isaac and Jennie McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jesse McBride. Norm, as he was affectionately called, began serving his nation at the age of 17 by enlisting in the US Navy in 1951. He served three years during the Korean War as a Bosuns Mate on the U.S.S. Hamul and the U.S.S. Gallup, participating in direct action against the enemy on the Hamul. Following separation from the Navy, he served another 18 years in the US Air Force as a communications repairman and cryptology technician. Norms Air Force career afforded him worldwide travel to include two tours in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1972, after honorably serving his country for more than 21 years. As a retired veteran, he and his wife Shirley moved to Del Rio, Texas in 1973 where he enjoyed the next 40 years raising a family, participating in business ventures, and building lasting friendships as a Grand Mason of the Val Verde Lodge #646, Life Member of the Del Rio VFW Post #8552 and member of the Del Rio Elks Lodge # 837. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley May McBride, his sister Louise Sissy Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, children Vicky Lynn Warmack of Sullivan, Missouri, Cathy Turner Murphy and her husband Rick of San Antonio, Texas, and Norman E. McBride, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Alameda, California and five grandchildren. The family would like to extend great appreciation to the amazing and professional team of doctors, nurses and staff of the San Antonio Military Medical Center. Thank you also to the loving care and support of family and friends. Gods richest blessings came during our time of need. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 F.M. 3009, Schertz, TX 78154 with visitation beginning at 11:00am followed by a 12:00 noon service. A procession will depart at 1:00pm for Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery where military honors will be served at 1:45pm.
