Norma Althouse

August 25, 1942 — March 2, 2016

Norma Jean (Cavin) Althouse born on August 25, 1942 in Kenton, Ohio, passed on March 2, 2016 in Schertz, Texas. Norma retired as City Secretary for the City of Schertz in 2005 after 21 years. Previously she worked as a Bookkeeper for Durez Occidental Chemical Corp in Kenton, OH. Norma was Valedictorian of her 1960 Kenton High School Class and attended college at the University of Dayton. On April 20, 1963, she married Tommy Lee Althouse and in 1978 they, with their 3 children, relocated to Schertz, TX. Norma was very active with the R.O.A.D. foundation alongside her daughter, Barbara, serving on the board. She held board positions on the Alamo Chapter ACC-SOT Texas Municipal Clerks Association and served tirelessly with the Schertz Planning and Zoning Commission. Norma loved to read, especially murder mysteries. She loved her quiet walks and surprisingly, she also loved the Rolling Stones, especially Mick Jagger. Norma was a loving caregiver to her special needs daughter, Barbara and a doting grandmother to her 4 grandchildren She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Catherine (Zickafoose) Cavin, her husband, Tom, her son, Joseph and her daughter, Barbara. She leaves behind her daughters, Sharon (Todd) Pennington of Apple Valley, California and Cyndi (Stan) Cejka of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jaclyn, Ashley, Angela and Nathan; her sister Nancy Schneider of Norman, Oklahoma; her brothers Nelson Cavin of Schertz, Texas and Norman Cavin of Tampa, Florida. Because of the awesome staff and excellent care she received while residing at Autumn Winds Retirement Lodge, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Autumn Winds Activity Fund, 3301 Roy Richard Dr. Schertz, TX 78154. Visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Schertz Funeral Home from 2:00PM - 4:00PM.
