Norma Adam

Norma Louise Adam was born on June 22, 1930 to Francois (Frank) Adam and Hazel Mae (Abshire) Adam in a rural area that was called Leleux in Louisiana. The family moved to another rural area called Lyons Point, then eventually to Crowley, LA. She spent most of her working career as a teacher in Baton Rouge, LA. She passed on from this life on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in Schertz, TX where she lived since January 2001. Normas first four years of elementary school were at the Leleux School. Beginning in 5th grade she attended St. Michaels Catholic School in Crowley, La. for 7 years until she graduated from high school in May 1948. Immediately after graduation, she entered Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, LA, eventually finishing her studies in Upper Elementary Education in January of 1952. Her teaching career began in the Acadia Parish School System in the Evangeline Oil Field School as a 6th grade teacher for 2 years. She then taught 2 years in the 4th grade in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools before switching to the 6th grade. In the 1960-61 school-year, she taught in the US Army Dependents School at the Ingrandes Sur Viennes US Army Base located between Paris and Bordeaux, France. After the year in France for the US Army, she returned to East Baton Rouge Parish Schools System to teach 6th grade until she retired on June 1, 1976. Norma was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, International Honorary Teachers Society since March 1957 and was a reserve member in the Gamma Chapter of that Society in Baton Rouge, LA until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents Francois and Hazel Adam, and her siblings Irving, Charlotte and Harold. Surviving family are her brothers Edward and Charles and their wives, 5 nieces and 4 nephews, 10 great nieces, 7 great nephews, 4 great-great nieces and 6 great-great nephews. Funeral Mass is Saturday June 8 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, TX at 10:00 am with a Rosary at 9:30 am. Graveside service will be at Woodlawn Cemetary in Crowley, LA on Wednesday June 12 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Good Shepherd Building Fund, P.O.
