Nicodemus Anthony Giglio left this earth on Friday, October 2, 2020. Born March 13, 1934, Nicodemus (Nick) was born in Oneonta, New York to Antonetti and Joseph Giglio. Nick had two older sisters, Rose and Mary; a younger brother, Vincent (Jimmy) and a younger sister, Theresa.
Nick decided he wanted to join the United States Air Force when he was eleven years old. Six years later, as soon as he turned 17, he did, with his father’s concurrence. His career lasted 30 years, and he advanced to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He traveled the world from Japan to Morocco; participated in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and received the Purple Heart in Vietnam after a shrapnel wound from an attack. He was proud of his time in the Air Force, and he cherished the friendships he developed with each assignment.
Nick moved to San Antonio in 1985 and it was his adopted home. He fiercely loved the Spurs, but he also remained loyal to the NY Giants and NY Yankees. He was a talented woodworker, an enthusiastic bowler, and an avid duffer in his younger years. He was also sole proprietor of Nick’s Inhome Tax Service for nearly 20 years. He truly enjoyed cheating at cribbage with his family, and playing poker with his friends on Wednesdays.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his wife of 35 years, Linda Joyce. He is survived by his children, Mark Steven, Michael Joseph, Nicodemus Anthony (Jr.), Ginovante Anthony, and Gary Eugene Wilks; and his daughters, Cathi Ann Gendreau, and Michelle Rose Olson, and their spouses.
Additionally, it was only natural that Nick’s children presented him with many grandchildren. And he was not disappointed as he is survived by 24 grandchildren (and their spouses); 34 great-grandchildren (and their spouses); and 2 great-great grandchildren (with more on the way).
Nick left us after 86 years of a life well-lived. He will be missed by his family, friends, Wednesday poker buddies, and the world will be poorer for his loss.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 18th, from 2-6 PM at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, Texas. A Funeral Service will be held at the same location at 11:30 on Monday, October 19th. Nick will be laid to rest later that day at Fort Sam Houston’s Veterans Memorial Cemetery next to his departed wife Linda. Nicodemus and Linda will share each other’s love again, for eternity.
