Nellie Tucker

October 6, 1933 — February 7, 2020

Nellie Rae Morgan Tucker, more affectionately known as "Nancy", "Mom", or "Memaw" entered eternal rest on February 7, 2020. She was born to Charles and Thelma Morgan, the second of eight children, in Casey County, Kentucky on October 6, 1933.

Although raised a farm-girl, Nellie never really liked living on the farm, so at 18, she made her way to Cincinnati to live with an aunt, and took a job in a factory. Soon after that, her childhood sweetheart, William Marshall Tucker (Marshall to her, "the boy from the farm across the creek"), returned from USAF boot camp and they were married on August 10, 1952. Nancy and Marshall started a happy, successful, 66-year marriage, making a home wherever the Air Force sent them, raising children, and working through life's challenges together.

Nancy was a wonderful mother and grandmother, loved by all for her energy, fun, and self-sacrificing devotion. During her time with four young children at home, she was twice called upon to be both a mom and dad for a year at a time, while Marshall served in Southeast Asia. She kept the family healthy, happy, and strong during those challenging years.

As her children became older and more independent, she took a part-time job as a school bus driver for the Converse school district. She loved the challenge and fun of herding a bus load of energetic kids while driving her route in a ponderous vehicle. She had fond memories of the kids she met and helped, and continued to drive for 21 years.

Nancy is survived by three children: David and his wife Bev, Pam and her husband Chris,  Garry and his wife Patti, six grandsons: Kyle, Scott, Matt, Christopher, John, and Michael, three great-grandchildren: Troy, Audrey, and Edric, and three siblings: Jim, Mary, and Larry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall, two children, Deborah and Mike, and four siblings.

Visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Thursday, February 27, from 5-8pm.

The funeral service will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, at 10am, with interment at Ft. Sam at 11:30am.
