Nadine Bennett

August 22, 1926 — January 31, 2021

Mother Nadine Edna Jackson Bennett was born on August 22, 1926, to Phillip Lawrence and Hattie Mary Jackson, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Under the pastorship of Elder L.C. Patrick, at the then Merriman Street Church of God in Christ (later First Church of God in Christ) in Jackson, Michigan, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized, and gloriously filled with the Holy Spirit. She served faithfully for many years at First Church of God in Christ, and later at Canaan Land Temple Church before moving to San Antonio, Texas and uniting with Livingway Church in 1997.

To provide for her family after becoming a single parent, at the age of 45 she earned her GED, and a few years later graduated with an Associate Degree in Office Education from Jackson Community College. She then put her knowledge and degree to use as a faithful employee of Consumers Power utility company in Jackson, Michigan until her retirement.

In addition to being a devoted mother to Lynda, Gloria, Margaret, and Thomas, she was also Ma Bennett, Mama Bennett, and Mother Bennett, to all who made her acquaintance. She was also known for her infectious smile, laughter, and passion to encourage others. Mother Bennett was a prayer warrior, extraordinary bible teacher and expounder of the Word of God.
During her life, she was a master seamstress, a member of Toastmasters, started Food for Thought ministry showcasing her computer skills. She was also recognized at the age of 75 as an outstanding volunteer at Northeast Methodist Hospital.

On January 31, 2021 she departed this life for her eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents Phillip L. and Hattie M. Jackson Kage; grandmother, Johnnie B. Lane; sisters, Pearler Whitfield, and Mildred Coleman; brothers, Dave Thomas Jackson, Henry Cecil Kage Jr.; daughters, Mrs. Lynda Brown Fletcher and Mrs. Margaret JoAnn DeMyers, son-in-law Leslie Nichols Jr., and step-grandson Jason Carl Nichols. She is leaves to mourn her passing, daughter, Minister Dr. Gloria J. Hurd Nichols; son, Thomas Bennett; sister, Mother Igene Smith; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She loved the Lord, her family and her church.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Livingway Christian Church. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Please have any floral tributes delivered directly to the church between 8:30-10:30AM the morning of the service.
