Murray Deaton passed peacefully on September 7, 2018, at Sodalis Assisted Living Memory Care, in Garden Ridge TX. He was born October 18, 1920, in Friendship, Tennessee. Murray served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, as a Naval aviator flying the Grumman TBM Avenger Torpedo/Bomber (carrier based). After the war he worked at Memphis Light, Gas, and Water, the city utility company, as a troubleshooter, from 1947 until he retired in 1972 and began his own business, Deaton Heating and Air Conditioning. Murray and Minnie were first members of Berclair Baptist Church, then Crestview Baptist Church. Murray served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School and bible study classes in both churches. In 1979 Murray gave up his successful business, and he and Minnie moved to their retirement home in Greers Ferry, Arkansas where they were active members of Westside Baptist Church. In September 2016, Murray and Minnie moved to San Antonio, Texas to be closer to their family. Murray loved his family and loved the Lord. He was a great, gentle, man, who will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ella Daisy (Conder) Deaton, and Connie Elgie Deaton, a younger sister, Hilda, and a younger brother, John William. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Minnie Louise (Calcote) Deaton; daughters Anita (Bill Weeper) and Patti (Lee Webb); granddaughter, Ashley (Jerry Wilson), all of San Antonio TX; and granddaughter Christina (Steve Schabow), and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Scarlett, from Portland OR.
Services were held Friday, September 21, 2018, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
