MSgt. Sherwood Kurt Kurzmann, USAF (Ret.), passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011, after 82 years of enjoying a life well lived. He called Schertz, TX, his home for the past 48 years and its where he and his wife, Donna, raised their two children. Kurt served in the Army as part of the occupying forces in Japan at the end of World War II and then spent the next 25 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1975 from Randolph Air Force Base. Kurt was born in Appleton, WI, on December 6, 1928 and he grew up in a large family with several brothers and sisters. He endured his share of hardships as a child growing up during the Great Depression. He learned that hard work and education would pave the way for his future, so he was always trying to learn new things. He enjoyed flying and at one point in his life had a crop duster airplane that he flew. Kurt was preceded in death by his wife, Donna. He leaves behind his two children, son, Kurtis Kurzmann of St. Louis, MO, and his daughter, Vaughn Krings & husband, Tom Krings, of Knoxville, TN. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces in the Appleton, WI, area. Kurt is to be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full military honors, on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 9:45 AM.
