Miyoko Wicht
December 5, 1947 — February 17, 2015
After a prolonged but brave battle with the debilitating breathing disease, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Miyoko Wicht collapsed and died in her home in Garden Ridge, Texas at the age of 67. The valiant and tireless efforts of the Bracken and Schertz EMS teams to revive her cannot go without mention. Miyoko was born in Tokyo, Japan on December 5, 1947 and was the sixth of eight children, three of which currently survive. She met her husband, Richard, in 1970 while she was working at the Air Base where he was stationed. They married in 1971, and their only child William, was born in 1972 and passed away at the age of 35. He left behind his wife, Aimee and two wonderful children, Kristen (now age 20), and Ayden (now age 17). Grandma Wicht dearly loved and doted over her grandchildren who reside nearby in Cibolo, Texas. If she were alive today she would surely wish to recognize two current and two former BAMC physicians who epitomize the word, "caring". They are Dr. Daniel Battafarano, Dr. David Bell, Dr. Roberta Ficke, and Dr. Mary Jo Hull. Miyoko requested (insisted) that there be no formal funeral or memorial services; only that her ashes be scattered in the beautiful waters off of Bellows Beach, Oahu, Hawaii a place she truly loved.
