Mildred Wise
October 18, 1923 — March 22, 2013
Mildred Olive Wise, 89 years young, residing in Schertz, TX went to be with our Lord and Savior after a long battle with a disabling stroke on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2:24 pm. Mildred was born on October 18, 1923 in Roaring Spring, Pa. daughter of Anna and Edward Dick. She attended Martinsburg HS and then worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. until the dial system came to Roaring Spring. She married Luther Wise Jr. on January 1, 1949 in Roaring Spring, Pa. where they raised their family. She moved to Orlando, Fl in 1974 and worked as the switchboard operator for Rollins College in Winter Park, Fl. until her retirement in 1986. In 1986 she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she resided with her daughter Barbara and Son-in-Law Alan Perkins until her death. Mildred was an avid knitter and has knit over 700 sweaters for World Service Organization and Knit for Kids, she also has knitted over 200 sets of hats and booties for Santa Rosa Christus Preemie Unit. Mildred was a member of The Alamo Heights Christian Church. Mildred is survived by a sister, Edith Oakes of Roaring Spring, PA and a brother, Dorsey Dick, of Waynesboro, PA. also her children, Barbara and Alan Perkins, of Schertz, TX and Scott and Maricel Wise of Panama City, FL., grandchildren, Christopher Scott and Mie Wise of Tallahassee, FL, Vicki Marie and Nathan Ashelin, of Cibolo, TX, Christopher Michael and Rebecca Wise, of Converse, TX, and Athena Capri and David Leeds of Fischers, IN., Isabella Alana Wise of Panama City, FL. 7 great grandchildren, Kylyn, Avery and Owen Ashelin, Skylar and Xander Wise, Hannah and Hollie Leeds. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Luther Wise, Jr. in 1985. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the home of her daughter, Barbara, in Schertz, TX on March 28, 2013 at 7:00 PM and her remains will be interred at Greenleaf Cemetery, Roaring Spring, PA with her husband at a later date.
