Micheal David Collins

July 14, 1960 — October 5, 2024

Schertz, Texas

Micheal David Collins, age 64, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on October 5, 2024 from multiple health issues.

Micheal was born on July 14, 1960 in San Bernardino, California to David and Ann Collins. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing catch, shooting BB guns at tin can targets, camping as a family, and boating.

Micheal's family moved to Oregon when he was 11 year old. Mike was always tall for his age. At 12 yrs. old, he measured 6 ft. and didn't stop growing until late high school when he reached

6'4" almost 6'5". He was every coach's dream and was good at football, basketball, and little league baseball, but Mike didn't enjoy competing in sports. Instead, he pursued other activities, like agriculture. At both Scenic Jr. High and Crater High School, Micheal was active in FFA. He raised a few different kinds of livestock and his senior year was elected President of the Crater FFA Chapter. He was an excellent water skier, snow skier, roller-skater and dancer. He and a group of friends joined a teenage square dance club called the, "Teasin' Teens". Mike danced with that club for a few years.

Mike's first jobs were working for the Crater High School FFA driving tractor. He also bucked hay with two of his friends. These part-time jobs gave Mike enough experience to be hired by Oregon State Parks mowing lawns at a newly opened nearby campground called, Lost Creek Lake. He worked that job every summer through college. Mike attended Oregon Institute of Technology and graduated with Associate Degrees in both Welding and Machining. After graduation, he was offered full-time employment by Oregon State Parks, which launched his life-long career starting as a Ranger and ending as a Civil Engineer designing new park facilities.

Micheal met Patti Berge in 1985 in Medford, Oregon. The two were inseparable and later married on July 11, 1987. When his son, Kaleb, graduated from Airforce boot camp in San Antonio, Texas July 2013, Mike vowed that was where he wanted to live when retired! In 2020, Mike packed up Patti and Aiden and moved to Schertz, Texas. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed!

Mike is survived by his sister, Debbie; his spouse, Patti; his five children: Adam, Alyssa, Dene', Kaleb, Aiden, and their spouses Sara, Steve, and Josh; his grandchildren: Everly, Mason, and one on the way (little Miss Zelda).

Micheal is preceded in death by his parents David and Anna Collins; and his first grandchild Micheal.
