Michael Madden Zapata was born on January 16, 1958 and passed away on May 19, 2017 at the age of 59. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. Michael is survived by his daughter Denise and son Michael, daughter in law Jessica, and his siblings Gombert, Jr., Jerry, Consuelo, and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca, and his parents Gombert and Helen Zapata.
Michael was born in San Antonio, graduated from Harlandale, and continued his education graduating from Southwest Texas State University. He worked at Randolph AFB for 30 years, played tuba in the community band, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed singing karaoke, playing his tuba, cheering on his favorite sports teams and spending time with his children.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 26 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marion, with interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
