Mica Rene Akridge

Mica Rene Poole Akridge, surrounded by her family and friends, went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2023 at the age of 52.

Mica’s residence was Shertz, Texas where she had lived for twenty years. Mica’s husband, Ray Akdrige, preceded her in death in March 2023.

Mica Rene Poole (Akridge) was born in McCamey, Texas on December 9, 1970. Mica’s parents are Bobby Poole and Marcia Branton Poole. They always called Mica, their “Gerber” baby.

Mica grew up in the following Texas communities: McCamey, Haskell, Bronte / Blackwell, Carrollton, Conroe and Corpus Christi.

Mica graduated from Conroe High School in 1989. She was a member of both the Junior High and High School drill teams at Conroe ISD. After High School, Mica attended Texas Tech University, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and graduated from Corpus Christi A&M in 1993 with a degree in Elementary Education. She has taught at both North Side ISD in San Antonio and Shertz ISD. Mica loved teaching reading and working with young children.

She had also been employed at Bracken Methodist Church and Alamo Heights United Methodist Church as a Youth Director for many years.

Mica married Ray Akridge at The First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 28, 1997.

Mica is survived by her parents, Bobby and Marcia Poole of Bastrop, Texas, her two brothers, Stephen Poole, of Springdale, Arkansas, and Kevin Poole, of Bastrop, Texas, two children, Conner Akridge, who resides in Shertz, and Adalee Akridge, who resides in California, and her beloved dog, Bear. She also leaves behind 2 nieces, a nephew, and many aunts and uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnel To Towers Organization

A Memorial Service for Mica will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM.
