Beloved husband, devoted father, mentor to the lucky, friend to many. Melvin Mel Carter passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 6, 2017. He was born in Leedy, Oklahoma on June 6, 1928 to Everett and Velma Carter. He grew up in Oklahoma and joined the United States Air Force in 1946. During his time in the military he met and married Myrtice Carter, his wife of seventy years, on
December 24, 1947 in Andalusia, Alabama. Their family expanded when they had daughterDeborah Schoppman on May 15, 1955. Melvin was honorably discharged from military service in 1949.
He became a civilian contractor to the military and had a long and successful career as a metallurgist.
His work took him to many places but he left his heart on Coppermine Road heading from Page,
Arizona. He had a great sense of humor and always loved a good joke. He is survived by his loving wife Myrtice Carter, daughter Deborah Schoppman, grandchildren Roxanne Lemke, David Funk, Rebecca Lopez, Jacob and Joshua Schoppman, and nine great grandchildren.
