Mary Wallace

Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Wallace passed away on December 22, 2011. She was born in Smithville, Indiana on June 18, 1918, daughter of the late John L. & Nora (Humphrey) Adams. She was also predeceased by a brother, John E. Adams and her husband, CMS Robert M. Wallace. She grew up in Vincennes, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in 1940 with a BS degree in Education. She and Bob were married on December 20, 1941 in Gallatin, TN. She was a member of Tri Kappa, I.U. Alumni Assn. and Delta Delta Delta Sorority, later joining the San Antonio Tri Delta Alumni Association and becoming a Life Member after moving to Randolph and Universal City. She was a life Member of the DAV Auxiliary and a plus 50 member of the Vincennes Chapter #291 order of Eastern Star. She was the charter president of the Junior American Legion Auxiliary and her continued membership in the American legion Auxiliary unit of #73 of Vincennes, Indiana, showed her membership card to read 85 continuous years. She loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and her home church was the Universal City United Methodist Church. Volunteerism was an important part of Siss life. She was a Red Cross volunteer for over 25 years. She served as an election clerk or judge continuously from the early 1970s until she retired in 2002. Her love and respect for the mentally and physically challenged adults with whom she worked and taught physical education for a period of time gave her great joy. The ROADS Foundation clients especially gave great meaning to her life. She was a people person and friends were extremely important to her. She cherished each and every one and they enriched her life beyond measure. She adored her family and is survived by her sons, Joseph Michael Wallace and Ross V. Wallace & his wife, Kim Nelson Wallace of Universal City; grandchildren, Jason L. Wallace of Universal City and Jaime L. Wallace of Katy, TX; nephews, Paul D. Adams of Peoria, IL., John E. Adams & wife, Madelyn of Rockford, IL, Bruce Evans and Mark Evans, both of CA; nieces, Julie Adams Hall and husband, John of Orion, IL and Sally Fleming of CA; grand niece, Jennifer H. Edwards; grand nephews, Karl and Ted Adams and five delightful great-grand nieces. Other survivors in the Bloomington, IN area include many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Flying Away Party will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Universal City United Methodist Church.
