Mary Elizabeth Real

Mary Elizabeth Shooter Real, 71, of Cibolo, TX, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 15, 1953, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Eugene and Clair Shooter.

Mary grew up in Abilene, TX in a military family stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. She attended McMurry University in Abilene TX and, in her early teaching career, met Patrick Real in Needville, TX. They were married on June 12, 1976, beginning a partnership that would last nearly five decades. Together, they built a family full of love and joy.

Mary’s faith in God was present in all parts of life exemplifying her Catholic faith. She had a remarkable career as a chemistry teacher, educating for over 32 years. Her dedication to her students and passion for teaching left a lasting impact on many lives. Outside of her professional accomplishments, Mary enjoyed hobbies such as reading, cooking, sewing, gardening, singing in the church choir, and social gatherings.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Pat Real; her children, Catherine (Rob) Penco, Steven (Kelly) Real, and David (Heather) Real; her siblings, Eugene Shooter, Mark (Ronda) Shooter, John Shooter, and Pat (Kirsten) Shooter; brother-in-law, Ralph (Barbara) Real; as well as 9 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Gail Shooter.

Mary's love for her family was endless, and she most cherished the moments spent in conversation with friends and loved ones. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren, finding great joy in their company. As a loving and kind grandmother, her home was always filled with smiles when her family gathered. Her friendly, loving, forgiving, and spiritual personality will forever be remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, TX. A Catholic Mass and graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 18th, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Life Celebration gathering in the Parish Hall.

Mary’s legacy of love, warmth, and determination will live on in her family’s hearts. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May her soul rest in peace.
