Mary Helen Millis, 84, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mary Helen was born March 18, 1934 in Foristell, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Chester Arthur Meyer and Gertrude Virginia Chrismer. She had one sister, the late Altone Anna Gimbel of Kampsville, Illinois.
She attended Wright City High School where she played saxophone in the marching band. She studied medical transcription at the Labor Health Institute in St. Louis, Missouri. She enjoyed this profession and worked as a transcriptionist multiple times throughout her life. She married Glenn Bryson of Foristell, Missouri in 1961. The couple had a daughter and a son. Mary Helen and Glenn enjoyed a loving marriage for over 30 years until Glenn passed away in 1996.
Mary Helen was fortunate to find love again in her golden years with Jack Millis, who she met in West Palm Beach, Florida. The couple was married in 1999. They sang together in the church choir and were active in the senior adult group of First Baptist Universal City. They were married almost 11 years until Jack's death in 2010.
Mary Helen loved music and loved to sing. If there was music playing or even if there wasn't, she would be singing. She was an active member of the barbershop groups Sweet Adelines in Wentzville, Missouri, and later, the Mission Belles in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, she was a member of several church choirs over the years.
Her church and her faith were a very important part of her life. She made friends easily and was blessed to have been loved by many.
She is survived by daughter Patricia Williams (Mike McCoy) of San Antonio, Texas and son Paul Bryson (Emelia Harrill) of Tustin, California; four grandsons, Chad Williams, Ryan Williams (Amy), Zachary Williams, and Kyle Williams, all of San Antonio, Texas.
A memorial service for Mary Helen will be held at First Baptist Church of Universal City, 1401 Pat Booker Road, on January 14, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the global or local mission fund of First Baptist Church of Universal City.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of New Forest Estates Assisted Living and New Century Hospice for their care and compassion in her final days. Additionally, to the First Baptist Church Universal City church family for the love, support and assistance given to Mary Helen throughout her life.
