Mary Lombardi

March 7, 1926 — October 12, 2012

Mary Louise Chancellor Lombardi, 86, recently of New Braunfels, TX, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012. Born on March 7, 1926 in Beaumont, she was the daughter of the late Floyd E. Huffman and Mary Evalyn Drake of Ft. Worth, TX. She graduated from North Detroit High School and married a classmate, 1st Lt. James W. Chancellor who served as a P-47 pilot in Europe during WW II. After her first husband died in a flight training accident at Randolph Field (1949), Mary Lou remained in Schertz, TX with a newborn and a toddler. She later moved to Alamo Heights (1954), renting a caretakers cottage on the old Halff estate on Torcido Drive, allowing her sons to attend Alamo Heights schools. Because of the increasing difficulties in raising two children on a military pension, she began working as a medical assistant in the obstetric office of Dr. James W. Carter for the next 12 years (1955-67) in the Nix Bldg. She loved working at the Nix with the patients and staff. Because of her respect for the healthcare community, she always encouraged her two sons to make the most of their education and sacrificed much to afford them these opportunities. The oldest boy became a dentist in San Antonio and the youngest became a physician in Tulsa. In 1967, she met and married a prominent Nevada physician, Dr. Louis E. Lombardi, and moved to Reno, NV. Louie was the love of her life, introducing her to a new life, family and friends. Over the years, they enjoyed traveling, Louies many golf tournaments and entertaining friends from Texas and around the country. After Louies passing in 1991, she returned to San Antonio in 1995 to be closer to family and grandchildren, residing in Windcrest. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening and estate sales. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Huffman, Evalyn Huffman Brumbelow and Jack Brumbelow. She is survived by her sons, Dr. James W. Chancellor and wife, Dr. Patricia Chancellor of Garden Ridge and Dr. Jon D. Chancellor and wife, Dana Chancellor of Tulsa; grandchildren include Kimberly Schwarz and husband, Stephen of Schertz, and Michele De Angelis and husband Colin of Bulverde, and Jennifer J. Chancellor of NY; Dr. Carrie Clarke and husband Rob of Kansas City, Kim McCarthy and husband Chris of Tulsa. Great grandchildren include Aidan Schwarz, Nadia Schwarz, Evelyn De Angelis, Sophia and Caroline Clarke and Mollie and Cooper McCarthy; sister, Jacqueline Kowald, nephews Barry Kowald and wife, Tracy and Brett Kowald. A Graveside service will be held on November 29, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
