Mary Linebarger

Mary Arlene Linebarger of Schertz Texas passed away at her home on Thursday, January 29, 2009 after an extremely short illness. She was 76. Mary was born to Asa and Ida Poorman in Waterloo, NY on February 4, 1932 and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1950. She entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and was on active duty until she married her husband of 55 years CMSgt. (retired) John D. Linebarger at Goodfellow AFB, Texas in 1953. During the next 19 years, John and Mary lived in Hawaii, Texas, Germany and Illinois. After Johns retirement from the Air Force in 1972 they moved to Schertz, Texas. Her life was noted by an open door policy of friendship that resulted in close relationships with the many that surrounded her throughout life. Outgoing, competitive, athletic, creative and enduring, her accomplishments will live on in the form of artwork made for close friends. Her warmth of personality extended to the many throughout the years of military living, particularly to the young who daily sought entry to her door and her heart. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Asa & Ida Poorman, and a brother, Edwin. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John D. Linebarger of Schertz; son & daughter-in-law, Dale & Cheri Linebarger of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, April L. Linebarger of Arlington, Texas and several brothers & sisters-in-law, Leroy & June Poormon, Don & Kathy Poormon, Eugene & Jean Poormon, Carl & Sherry Poormon, George & Nancy Poormon, all of Waterloo, NY, Ralph & Jean Poormon of Phelps, NY and Bennie & Kathy Poormon of Mesa, AZ; numerous nieces & nephews and many, many close personal friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Schertz Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 291048, San Antonio, Texas 78229-1648 in her name.
