Mary Burns

Mary Margaret Burns embraced God in his Kingdom in Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on December 6, 2013 in Universal City, Texas. Mary was born October 20, 1940 in Duluth MN, attended high school at Standbrook Hall, an all-girls Catholic High School and after gradation completed vocational nursing training. Mary and her husband Jack were married in 1964 and were assigned at Air Bases in Europe and several bases in the United States before coming to San Antonio-Randolph in 1978. Mary was an active member of the Randolph Enlisted Spouses Club and worked as a volunteer at the Base Thrift Shop for years. Mary was a successful floral business owner and was known as the "Flower Lady" for the floral arrangements she provided each week for the Randolph Catholic and Protestant religious services, Baptist and Lutheran churches in Universal City and many weddings. In 1997 Mary received national recognition as an Air Force Volunteer of the Year for her community service. Mary is survived by husband Jack, daughters Ann Marie Stefanek and husband, Kenneth, Diana Burns, son John M. Burns, brother Jacob Lepak of Duluth, MN, grandchildren Kyle and Nicole Stefanek and Michelle Burns with great grand-children Ava, Christina, Justice and Bella. Mary shared the love of many special friends and cousin Genevieve Lepak of Duluth, MN. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM. 3009, Schertz, Texas 78154. Service will be held at 9:00 A. M. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Randolph Air Force Base Chapel 1 with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Flowers are welcomed, but if you desire donations may be made in her name to the Lackland Fisher House,7323 W. Hwy 90, Suite 107, San Antonio, TX 78227 or Universal City Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
