Martha Martens

January 21, 1918 — June 9, 2011

Martha Madge Martens of Schertz peacefully passed away in the home of her only child Martha Marty and Johnny Smith, at the age of 93. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and Marine Corps wife. She was preceded in death by husband, Master Sargent, Ralph Martens, USMC ret. and great granddaughter, Jordan Ann Smith. She is survived by daughter, Marty Smith and husband Johnny, granddaughters Kristann and husband, Clayton Sniff, Summer and husband, Chris Trapp, grandson Brannon and wife, Angela Smith, great grandchildren, Cailin and Karli Sniff, Taylor and Brett Trapp, Jayden and Braydon Smith and Kasi McCarty, sister Edie and Tom Crook of League City, and many nieces and nephews from Texarkana and Austin. Madge was born in Hooks, Texas in 1918, worked in Aransas Pass and Port Aransas, but lived all over the country following her Marine Corps husband who was a veteran of both WWII and Korea. When Ralph retired in San Antonio, Madge spent 33 years working for Civil Service before retiring to her home in Live Oak where she volunteered in the offices of the U.C. United Methodist Church. She spent her last 5 years of life living with her daughter, Marty. Visitation with be at Schertz Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Funeral Services will be at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00am on Thursday, June 16 , 2011. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston following funeral services.
