Martha Longmire

July 15, 1937 — March 14, 2019

Martha passed from this earth at age 81 on March 14, 2019. Born to Mary and Andrew Skladany on July 15, 1937 in the "Birthplace of Steel," North Braddock, Pennsylvania, Martha's fiercely independent streak inspired her to join the US Air Force in August of 1957. She met her life's one true love, Bobby Joe Longmire, at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. With their shared love for family, country music, and dancing, they married in August 1959 and began their adventures together, traveling to England, New Mexico, Washington D.C. and North Carolina (all courtesy of the US Air Force). Bobby preceded her in death far too soon in 1973, but not before the births of their three treasured children, Robert, Kathleen, and Jeffery.
Ever the dedicated mother, Martha independently raised her three young children while pursuing her Associate Degree in Secretarial Sciences which she attained in 1978. A self-described "people person" who loved being around and nurturing young people, Martha re-entered the workforce in school administration, a career she truly enjoyed for a quarter of a century before she retired well into her 70's. Besides her extreme pride in her kids and grandkids, Martha was passionate about the Steelers, country dancing, and her faith. Until her health began to get the better of her, when she wasn't "flying around the dance floor" across San Antonio and Seguin, she could be found working as a church greeter and participating in her Faithful Friends fellowship. She was devoted to the church, attending weekly Mass celebrations, Rosary services, and Novena, which she did up until two days before her passing. She was an avid bingo player who valued her neighbors and lifelong circle of friends, spending her retirement days "chitty-chatting" with loved ones she gathered to herself over the years. Martha looked forward to her yearly holiday trips to North Carolina to see her beloved sons and their children as well as her Goldsboro, NC friends, but her final journey is the one she has most anticipated since 1973. This journey will bring her back to her beloved "Buster" at the North Braddock All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Pennsylvania to finally rest at his side.

Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, and her parents, Andrew and Mary, as well as her sisters Valerie, Marie, and Florence. Martha is survived by her brother, Andrew and wife, Ann, of North Braddock, PA as well as her three loving children: Robert and wife, Renee, of Coral Springs, FL, Kathy and husband, Doug, of San Antonio, and Jeff and wife, Carol, of Knightdale, NC. The memory of times spent with their beloved "Nana" will be cherished by her grandchildren Sara and husband, Greg, of San Francisco, CA, Brent and wife, Jamie, of Anchorage, AK, Elizabeth of Corvallis, OR, Ryan and wife, Chyna, of Clayton, NC, Kristen of Knightdale, NC, Kaitlyn of Coral Springs, FL, and Matthew of San Antonio, TX as well as her two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Samuel. Martha had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, and we know they will miss their Aunt Martha.
