Marjorie Polasek

September 29, 1930 — October 2, 2019

Marjorie Nell (Hauerland) Polasek, loving wife and mother, was surround by her devoted family, when the Lord called her home on Wednesday morning, October 2, 2019, at the age of 89. She was born in Sugar Land, Texas, on September 29, 1930. Marjorie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and devoted friend. She and will be greatly missed.

Marjorie, enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, quilting, bowling, dancing, and yellow roses. Most of all, Marjorie enjoyed sharing time her family who were the most important people in her life. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hauerland; father, Emmett Hauerland; brother, Charles A. Hauerland; granddaughter, Julia D. Busscher and great grandson, Henry Turmelle. She is dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her best friend and husband of 69 years, Lt Col (Ret) Bill E. Polasek; her children, Col (Ret) Jim Sturch & Marinell Myers, Lt Col (Ret) Rohm & Wanda Stillings, Lt Col (Ret) Kenneth & Melanie Polasek and Kerry & Judy Seiffert; her five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a beloved nephew.

Marjorie was a graduate of Sugar Land High School and prided herself as Flag Bearer for the “Gator Marching Band”. Upon graduation she met her first and only love, Bill E. Polasek, at a mutual friend’s wedding reception. Bill and Marjorie were married in Sugar Land Texas on April 15th 1950.  They were devoted lifelong partners for 69 years--always fondly referring to each other as “My Killer”.

Bill recalls that “My killer” was the greatest lady, wife, mother and grandmother ever!” He went on to say that “Mom loved her family with all her heart…She was a beautiful woman, made a friend everywhere we went, and had the best smile ever…how could anyone write words about that!”

At the time of their marriage the Korean War was going on, and Bill joined the Air Force that launched them both into 27 adventurous years. His shy Sugar Land sweetheart strapped on her role of a strong supportive Air Force wife with courage and dedication. Their very first assignment was in Maine, followed by Niagara Falls, New York. In New York, Marjorie’s first daughter Marinell was born. Just months after Marnell’s birth Bill was transferred overseas to Japan. The Korean war was still active so Bill had to travel to Japan first to be later followed by Marjorie and her young child. This significant event involved a very young Marjorie escorting her baby daughter overseas to Japan crossing the ocean on a Military Vessel. During a wartime atmosphere, with no technology or easy communication, this enormously arduous trip took a tremendous amount of self-confidence and courage.

Marjorie exhibited these characteristics throughout her career as a Devoted Air Force Military Wife. For the next 27 years she stood by her husband’s side handling all household requirements necessary to relocate her family of four children. As a result of her husband’s multiple assignments she moved her family 12 times -- traversing the Pacific to Japan, Hawaii, Taiwan and the Philippines; traversing the United States to bases in Washington, Texas, and Massachusetts; and then finally traversing to Europe. On average Marjorie packed up and moved her family every two years of their first 20 years of military service. Additionally, and just as remarkable was Marjorie’s strong demeanor to single handedly care for her four children at her hometown of Sugar Land, Texas while her husband was supporting the United States during the Vietnam War.  In addition, she earned her own accolades for holding various leadership positions in the Officer’s Wives Club. She was also recognized as Air Force Family Service Volunteer of the Year acknowledging her countless volunteer hours devoted to supporting other military families both in the United States and overseas.

Marjorie loved to travel and at every assignment Bill made sure she was exposed to some of the most beautiful places in the Far East, United States and Europe. They also had the opportunity to enjoy several cruises whereby they made many dear friends. To quote her husband Bill, “We traveled all over the world and your mom made friends everywhere she went.” She also loved to dance the Waltz and the Polka. Her husband took every opportunity to glide her across the dance floor.

Marjorie enjoyed bowling and for a “little lady” she could sure throw a bowling ball!
As a result, she enjoyed many years as a valuable team member of the base the bowling league at every location they lived.

Overall, she is best remembered and admired for her passion for fine sewing and hand quilting. She was an active member of San Antonio Texas Cultural Center Quilters Guild and graced her family with many beautiful handmade items and one of a kind quilts.

Marjorie Nell Polasek absolutely loved yellow roses. In the future, every time we see a yellow rose, we will be fondly reminded of her sweet spirit and beautiful smile.
