Maria E. Lisenbee

July 1, 1963 — January 20, 2025

Converse, Texas

Maria Elena Lisenbee, aged 61, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family in her home.

Born on July 1, 1963, in Madrid, Spain, Maria grew up in the suburb of Coslada as the oldest daughter in a cherished family. She was the beloved daughter of Leandro Herrero and Maria Carmen Mejias and was proud to be the big sister to two younger brothers. Maria’s life took a beautiful turn when she met her future husband, John Robert Lisenbee, Sr., during their teenage years. The two were high school sweethearts, marrying soon after graduation. Together, they embarked on a journey that saw them traveling the world due to John's military career.

Maria dedicated herself to education, earning an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, which paved the way for her revered role as a Childcare Director. After retirement, she found joy in being a devoted homemaker, harnessing her passion for sewing—a craft she learned from her mother—into a successful small business creating beautiful textiles such as curtains and pillows.

Her talents extended beyond sewing; Maria had a love for crafting, reading, and cooking, which she joyfully shared with her family. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy filled with love. She is survived by her three children: Diana Lisenbee, John Robert Lisenbee Jr. (spouse: Brittany Leann Lisenbee), and Steven Alexander Lisenbee. Her grandchildren, John Jarvis Lisenbee and Madison Grace Lisenbee, who brought her immeasurable joy.

Maria is also survived by her two brothers, Oscar Herrero Mejias (spouse: Beatriz, daughter: Martha) and Leandro Herrero Mejias (spouse: Loli). She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.

As we remember Maria, we celebrate a life filled with love, resilience, and creativity. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
