January 11, 1939 — March 17, 2017

Maria A. Gutierrez, born on January 11, 1939, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 17, 2017 at the age of 78. Maria had worked as a migrant worker in her early years. She later became a Cosmetologist and also worked as a PBX operator and Sales Clerk. Maria loved going to the beach and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was cooking and baking for her family while listening to music. In her down time Maria loved watching old western movies. She is survived by loving husband of 57 years, Victor Gutierrez of Schertz, TX; children, Thelma Lopez of Corpus Christi, TX and Belinda Gutierrez-Sabatelli of Schertz, TX; son-in-law, Jesse Lopez of Corpus Christi, TX; daughter in laws, Elva Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, TX, Shannon Sabatelli of Schertz, TX; grandchildren, Monica (John) Mendez of Corpus Christi, TX, Ashley (Jan) Krsak of Oak Harbor, WA, Kimberly Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, TX and Emily Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, TX; great-grandchildren, Alisa M. Pena, Bianca Mendez and Javier Juan Mendez all of Corpus Christi, TX; siblings, Francisco (Pancho) Alvarado Sr. of Laredo, TX, Rosario Alvarado-Espinoza of Dallas, TX, Lucia Carrillo of Laredo, TX, Josie (Pepa) Ramirez of San Antonio, TX, Cecilia Alvarado of Laredo, TX, Dionicio Alvarado of Laredo, TX, Sylvia Tamez of Laredo, TX and Juan F. Alvarado of Laredo, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Francisca Alvarado; children, Javier Gutierrez and Victor Gutierrez Jr., siblings, Irene Pena and Antonio Alvarado.

The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 4:00PM-8:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:30AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Juan F. Alvarado, John Mendez, Michael Sabatelli, Jose Ramirez and Dave Clark. Honorary pallbearer Jesse Lopez. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Schertz Humane Society.
