He served continuously until June of 1989 when he retired from active duty. The very next day, he began serving in a civilian capacity as Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), where he would stay until his retirement from civil service in June of 1997. In a highly decorated career which lasted almost four decades, Colonel Hollingsworth served three tours in Vietnam and two in Korea. He also served with the 1st Cav at Fort Hood and got his jump wings as a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. His final posting was at Fort Belvoir serving as the INSCOM Chief of Staff as stated above. In his later years he moved back to Texas where he spent time with his family, serving as a member of Cibolo Valley Baptist Church, listening to southern gospel music, playing bridge and cheering on his beloved Aggies and Cowboys. He is preceded in death by his Wife, Janice Hollingsworth and his parents, Merle Cooper Hollingsworth and Mildred Elizabeth Hollingsworth. The family suggests memorials to your preferred Veteran's charity in lieu of flowers.
