Maj. Forc
January 27, 1931 — January 3, 2012
Maj. Don C. Holman, United States Air Force (Ret.), age 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Brooke Army Medical Center after suffering from a bad fall the week prior. Don was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War where he earned several medals and citations. He grew up in Wisconsin, one of four children of Arnold and Elizabeth Holman. As a child, he learned to work on just about everything, as his family had a working farm. After school, Don joined the Air Force where he excelled as a Pilot. He loved flying and was fortunate to fly until his retirement in 1970. He then turned down a civilian test pilot position to start up a real estate firm named Triangle Realty just down the road from Randolph Air Force Base. Don worked seven days a week until his fall at his office two days after Christmas. He worked for his entire life to help others, particularly his family. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him, as friends and family will attest. Don is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine. Mr. Holman is survived by his wife, Sue; five children, Donna Jilek, Eric Holman, Debra Reus, Donlee Holman, and Marcia Fischer; sisters, Juran and Joyce and brother, David. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Schertz Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 4:00 PM in the Chapel at Schertz Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where Don will receive full United States Air Force honors.
