Macario Balakit

Macario "Mac" Burgos Balakit, 80, of Converse, TX, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Born on January 2, 1932 in the Philippines, he was the son of the late Antonino Gonzalez Balakit and Juana Tuzon Balakit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Catalina de Leon Balakit. Mac proudly served in the U.S. Navy until his retirement. He worked as a mechanic and also enjoyed gardening, carpentry, cooking, reading, chess and Medical Research. Mac is survived by his wife,Cynthia Cea Balakit of Converse, Texas; children, Isabelle Balakit-McDaniel of Waldorf, Maryland, Bernadette Balakit-Higgins of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Florencia Balakit-OBrien of Redondo Beach, California, Mitchell Noel Balakit of Waldorf, Maryland and Macario Burgos Balakit, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Adams of Baltimore, MD, Ian Higgins of Gaithersburg, MD, Melanie Balakit of Waldorf, MD, Rico Balakit of San Antonio, TX, Michael Balakit of Waldorf, MD, Jennifer OBrien of Redondo Beach, CA, Hazel Joanne Balakit of San Antonio, TX and Alexander OBrien of Redondo Beach, CA. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 pm, and on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 pm, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at Schertz Funeral Home at 10:00 am with military honors. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 @ 9:45am.
