Lydia Vargas Lundquist, a beacon of love and strength, departed this world September 19, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on August 3, 1948, in Garden City, Kansas, Lydia lived a life that was a testament to her commitment to family, generosity, and the simple joys of life.
She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, whose nurturing spirit touched the lives of everyone around her. Lydia found immense joy in spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed ranching and gardening, nurturing not just plants but also the hearts of those who crossed her path. Her passion and ethics were evident in everything she did. Lydia is survived by her brother Pascal Vargas and sisters Lupe Vargas and Alisha Findley. Her legacy lives on through her children: daughter Erika Lundquist and her spouse Justin Clack, along with their beautiful children Zoey Lundquist, Lars Lundquist, and Aryana Clack; and her son Christopher Esquivel, his wife Beth Esquivel, and their beloved children Christopher Jr., Desiree, Timothy, and Sabrina. The tapestry of her family continues to weave through her sons and grandchildren, including Johnny Estrada and grandson Erik; daughter Rose Johnson and husband David Johnson grandsons Matthew, Ryan, Derek, Ayden, Mason, Chase, along with three great grandchildren; Mark Estrada and his three children; Joe Estrada with three children and three grandchildren of his own; Carlos Estrada, also a father to three children and three grandchildren; Henry Estrada, Fernando Esquivel and his two sons; and Micheal Esquivel with two children. Lydia cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. In addition, Lydia shared a deep bond with her loving partner Timothy Rehfeld, creating beautiful memories together.
Lydia was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lars Lundquist, who left this Earth on August 12, 1996. Their love continues to inspire everyone who knew them. Lydia’s love and laughter will forever echo in our hearts, as will her unwavering dedication to family and friends. She has left a deep and lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation to celebrate Lydia's life will be held on September 26, 2024, at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin, Texas, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a graveside service to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
