Lucille Auerbach

April 10, 1920 — May 13, 2010

Lucille Auerbach, affectionately known as 'Lu' to her friends and as 'Momma Lu' to her grandchildren, was received into the welcoming arms of Christ on the morning of Thursday, May 13, 2010 while sleeping peacefully at her home in Schertz, TX, with her loving family by her side. A native of San Antonio, Lu met the love of her life, Gerald Auerbach, in 1947. They were married on July 31, 1948 at Kelly Air Force Base. Lu and Gerry traveled the world over for several years as he served in the Air Force as a pilot and after his retirement, as he continued his career as an airline and corporate pilot. Lu enjoyed serving as a Gray Lady in Little Rock, AR where she cared for war-scarred vets. After living abroad for several years she and Gerry returned to San Antonio to raise their only son, Anthony. Lu was a gorgeous and glamorous woman who enjoyed decorating officer's clubs and homes, playing bridge with her friends, and being the life of the party. Lu lived well and laughed often. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her loving family and having her sweet dog, Pinkie, on her lap. Lu was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Louis and Annie Ambs. She leaves behind her loving husband and best friend of 62 years, Gerry; their son, Anthony and his wife Rita, two grandchildren, Adam and Alex Auerbach; brother in law, Herman Auerbach and her niece, Erica Auerbach. The family will be forever grateful to Valerie Davis, Betty Bruce and Terryanne Harris, of Amedisys Hospice Service, for their loving care of our precious mother in her final days. You are our angels! The family will receive friends in the chapel of Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, TX at 9:00 AM on Tuesday May 18, 2010 followed by a service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Financial contributions in her honor may be made to: The Healy Murphy Center 618 Live Oak St. SA TX 78202.
