Thomas M. Stedman of Garden Ridge Texas passed away at age 83 years on 18 November, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas James Stedman and Floreen Stedman Simpson. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Evelyn Stedman and his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. Stedman, Jr. and Kimberly C. Stedman. His grandchildren include Emily and James Johnston, Nathaniel and Jennifer Meagher, Karinda and Eric McGraw, Abbie and Andrew DeRamus, James Cowan III, Julie Stedman, Austin Cowan, and Nathaniel Cowan. His great-grandchildren include Elijah and Caleb Meagher, Clara DeRamus, and Jeremy Johnston. Mr. Stedman entered the service of his country in the US Army in 1950 and retired twenty years later in 1970 in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His tours of duty included service in Korea, Germany and Vietnam as well as numerous stateside assignments where he piloted airplanes and helicopters. Upon Mr. Stedmans retirement from the Army, he entered the US Customs Service where he worked for the next 26 years as an Import Specialist in Savannah, Georgia. He and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Garden Ridge, Texas in 2004 so as to live close to their only child, Tom Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Stedman were active in many social and community service activities including the Boy Scouts of America, and the Garden Club of Georgia. Mr. Stedman was a member of the Order of Daedalians and the Military Officers Association of America. Mr. Stedman is remembered by all who knew him as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, 28 November from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at New Braunfels Bible Church on Tuesday, 29 November at 10:30 AM followed by burial, with full military honors, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 PM that same day.
