Ltc James Allen (Jim) Jeffers, 73, of Garden Ridge, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family, Resurrection Sunday, April 24, 2011. He was born to the late George and Leila Jeffers, October 20, 1937, in Victoria, TX. Jim graduated from Yoakum High School and Texas A&I University and went on to receive a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. Jim retired from the US Army with 33 years of service. In addition to his military service Jim worked as the Director of Finance for the City of New Braunfels and then as City Secretary for the City of Garden Ridge. Jims public service included many years in the Lions Club and VFW. He was active in the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department and Tree of Life Church. In recent years Jims entire focus was on his church and the family he loved, cherished and cared for so completely. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Edith Jeffers, daughter Marlisa Gunn and husband, Bill; son James K Jeffers and wife, Robin; granddaughter Rebekah Zook and husband, Chad; grandsons Benjamin Dudley, Austin Jeffers and Alex Jeffers; and great-granddaughter Kay Lynn Zook, all of New Braunfels. Also surviving are brothers Harold Jeffers of Kingsville; and George Jeffers and wife Clara, of Victoria along with numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Warrior and Family Support Center. A viewing will be held from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Schertz Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Schertz Funeral Home, with burial at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
