Lt. Col. Emile Leger, U.S. Army (Ret.), age 92 of Converse, passed away on September 26, 2011. Emile was born to Alcide & Alice (Boudreau) Leger on January 22, 1919 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death in June 2007 by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene E. Leger. Emile is survived by his daughter, Heidi Marie Norton Keene & husband, Bob; son, Ronald Peter Leger & wife, Heddie; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Emile was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Infantry Officer Candidate School, Officer Communication School and Military Intelligence School. He served in the Army for 20 years. Emile did espionage work with the French Foreign Intelligence. He also served in the Cold War against Russia and served as the Commander of Linguist Teams interrogating the refugees escaping from the East Zone during the building of the wall in Berlin. Emile and his wife served as Missionaries for 50 years where they ministered to the Homeless in 3 cities. At the time of his death, Emile was Chaplain Emeritus on the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Rescue Mission. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Cibolo Valley Baptist Church. Interment will occur at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
