Lillian Jeanette Opiela Ryan Bruce was born February 9, 1934, and passed away November 19, 2009, at the age of 75 years. Lillian held the office of Worthy Matron in Eastern Star Lodge 1268 A.F. & A.M., past member and officer Highlands PTA, Past member of Hot Wells Baptist Church and until her illness she enjoyed working with her son at Majestic Paints in San Marcos/Universal City. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel J. Opiela and Rose L. Martin Opiela; son, Calvin Dennis Ryan; brothers, Valentine (Dan) Opiela and Frank L. Opiela; sister, Annie C. Opiela Donaldson; and former husband, Frederick Bruce. Lillian is survived by sons, Danny Ryan and Michael A. Ryan; (husband/long time companion) John Tidwell; sisters, Betty R. Chrisman, Virginia J. Bickley, and Billie J. DeSalme (Richard C. Bissex); grandchildren, Shaun, Starla, Robin, CD, Melissa, Nicole, Kasey, Shaina, 12 great-grandchildren, and extended Bruce family. She is also survived by great-aunt and great-uncle, Joyce and Walter Goodwyn, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Lillian enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. The family would like to thank the Southeast Baptist Hospital staff and Dr. Robert Ching for their caring support. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, with services at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Schertz Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
