Lennert Leslie Boenig passed away on December 27, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born on February 6, 1924 in the Schertz Hospital to Willie and Alma Real Boenig. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Edline Weyel Boenig. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. Lennert and Edline farmed all their married lives near Converse, Texas.
Lennert was an outstanding farmer and rancher, dedicated to agriculture, water resources and improvements in the community. He served on the Agriculture Stabilization Committee for 25 years and on the Alamo District Soil and Water Conservation Board for 15 years. In 1968, he was honored with the Joe Freeman Award. He also received the Farm Bureau Pioneer Award and the Grange Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lennert lived his entire life in the Converse area, except when he was away serving in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed serving his community and helping others. He helped organize the Converse Volunteer Fire Department and was a charter member of the Converse Grange. He also was very active in the Converse Hermann Sons and St. Paul's Evangelical Church.
Lennert was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three children: daughter, Kathryn Miller with husband Ray Miller and their children Chad Miller and Candace Herring with husband Brock Herring and their daughter Jayden Herring; son,
Dan Boenig and his son Mark Boenig; and son James Boenig with his wife Karen Leonhardt Boenig and their daughters Meghan Boenig, Jessica Boenig, and Amy Boenig. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Allan Weyel.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 1, 2015 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2015 at 10:30AM at St. Paul Evangelical Church. The Graveside service will take place on Tuesday, January 5, 2015 at 2:00PM at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
