Lena Brestel

October 3, 1931 — October 26, 2010

Lena Lewis Brestel passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at NE Methodist Hospital with her daughters at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Crettie Lewis; brother, J.W.; sisters, Judy, Hilda Gray and Cathleen. Survivors include her sister, Josephine Newcomb; daughters, Julie Brestel Simpson and husband, Lee Simpson, Christy Brestel Shaw and husband, Michael Chavez; four grandchildren, Alex Simpson, Peyton Simpson, Lindsay Acuna and Savannah Brestel-Chavez and great-grandchild, Juliet Acuna. Lena was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a wonderful zest for life. She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Duke University Nursing School and worked for almost 30 years as a chemotherapy nurse at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio. Passionate about her patients, she was kind and caring to all who crossed her path. She was also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and continued to be involved in cancer care and treatment even after her retirement. She loved life, family, the Spurs, the Cowboys, the Razorbacks and the Longhorns. She will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to: Susan G.
