Larry Patterson
August 5, 1936 — January 24, 2015
Larry E. Patterson, 78, famous lefty golfer, accomplished story teller and notorious food and drink connoisseur, died on January 24, 2015. Larry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Beth; brother Charles Patterson with wife Sarah; son Ed Patterson with wife Sharon; daughters Lee Ann Clark, Laura Whitaker with husband Kevin; stepsons, Bob McCurdy with wife Tina and Andy McCurdy. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren Hailey, Lucas, Lane, Emma, Catherine and Madeline. Larry graduated from Freer High School in 1954. He honored FHS by being the school's first state champion. He and his partner won men's doubles in tennis. He also played football. Larry attended Texas A&M University on a tennis scholarship and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Larry left college and enlisted in the army where he served honorably. Larry went to work for Fluornoy Drilling as a roughneck, and in 1959 began his 32-year career at Sun Oil Company where he retired in 1991. He then started his own business as Patterson Corrosion Consultants. Larry was also a 32nd degree Mason. Larry and Beth married on September 3, 1980. They spent their 34-year courtship celebrating life and love with family and friends. They spent many hours playing tennis and golf, dancing, and following their children's and grandchildren's athletic and educational endeavors. The past 18 years in Scenic Hills enjoying friends and "dispensing justice" on the golf course were some of his fondest memories. Even through many medical issues, Larry maintained a positive spirit and touched countless lives.
